Project Magnify
Project Magnify is a partnership between the SC Department of Education and the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind. It is designed to increase reading skills of students with low vision through intensive training and practice with low vision devices.
The SC Vision Education Partnership
The Partnership is a collaboration of South Carolina agencies and organizations to ensure high quality education for children with visual impairments through teacher education and professional development. The partners include:
- SC School for the Deaf and the Blind
- SC Department of Education
- University of South Carolina - Upstate
- SC Commission for the Blind
- National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina
- SC Chapter of the Association of Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired
- SC State University
- Medical University of South Carolina Storm Eye Institute
- The Vision Institute of South Carolina
- SC State Library
Statewide Vision Consultant
The SC Department of Education works with the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind to provide a statewide vision consultant who:
- Provides technical assistance to school districts, upon request, regarding the services required for blind and visually impaired children to be successful in the general education curriculum
- Serves as the American Printing House for the Blind ex officio trustee for the SC Department of Education, Office of Special Education Services
- Serves as co-chair of the SC Vision Education Partnership
