• Library

Our school offers an extensive, on-campus library for students, parents, and professionals. Housed in the Cleveland Learning Resource Center, the library provides materials and instruction to help students become capable users of print and online resources.

The library includes 20,000 publications including leisure and professional reading, newspapers, magazines, and captioned videos. It is well equipped to meet the needs of students who are deaf, blind, or sensory multi-disabled.

    Equipment and materials include:

    For Students who are Deaf

ActivitiesMaking gingerbread houses is a favorite activity during the holiday season.

The library offers a variety of fun, educational activities throughout the year including an international fair, Halloween book swap, gingerbread house celebration, Dr. Seuss' birthday party, summer reading program, author visits, reading contests, and storytelling festivals.

Our students have access to Accelerated Reader, a computerized reading comprehension program. Students select materials based on their reading levels, read books at their own pace, take tests, and receive immediate feedback.

During the reading fair, students stop by the John Steinbeck exhibit featuring handmade characters from the book. The library also has the Accelerated Reader companion program, STAR reading. This reading diagnostics software allows students and teachers to measure reading levels by taking interactive, computer-based tests. STAR continually adjusts to the students' responses on the test.

The library is organized through an online catalog system with voice and large print accessibility that allows students, parents, and teachers to access catalog information from home. Each school has internet access to the library's online catalog.

Library patrons have access to DISCUS, South Carolina's virtual library. DISCUS hosts a variety of databases including encyclopedias, social sciences, careers, health and wellness, and more.
