• The McAlister Foundation Scholarship

    • The McAlister Scholarship is sponsored by The McAlister Foundation, The SCSDB Foundation, and the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB).

    • It is a full scholarship designed for deaf and hard of hearing students who have a need for financial assistance to attend college.

    • The scholarship may be used at any state college within South Carolina.

    • The amount of the scholarship will be determined each year based on the total amount of funding received by the recipient from all sources applicable covering tuition, fees, and dormitory room and board. 

    • The scholarship will be renewed each semester provided the recipient:

    (1) receives the grades required to remain in college, and
    (2) continues to meet the requirements of this scholarship. 

    Selection Criteria

    An applicant must: 

    • be deaf or hard of hearing as evidenced by an audiogram

    • be a resident of South Carolina

    • be a graduate or upcoming graduate of the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind, or have received services through the SCSDB Outreach Program

    • demonstrate that he or she has a South Carolina high school diploma or is currently meeting all requirements for graduation; or such alternatives as the committee deems appropriate

    • be determined capable of completing college work

    • demonstrate financial need as evidenced by a Federal Student Aid Report (SAR) from FAFSA (Website: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/)

    • plan to attend a state college within South Carolina

    • complete the McAlister Foundation Scholarship application and provide all required documentation (see checklist at right)
