McAlister Scholarship

The McAlister Scholarship is proudly sponsored by The McAlister Foundation, The SCSDB Foundation, and the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB). This full scholarship is specifically designed for deaf and hard of hearing students who require financial assistance to attend college.

Scholarship Details

  • Eligibility: The scholarship can be utilized at any state college within South Carolina.
  • Award Amount: The scholarship amount is determined annually, based on the total funding the recipient receives from various sources to cover tuition, fees, and dormitory room and board.
  • Renewal Conditions: The scholarship is renewable each semester if the recipient:
    1. Maintains the required grades to stay enrolled in college.
    2. Continues to meet all the scholarship's requirements.

Selection Criteria

To qualify for the McAlister Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be deaf or hard of hearing, as evidenced by an audiogram.
  • Be a resident of South Carolina.
  • Be a graduate or an upcoming graduate of the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind, or have received services through the SCSDB Outreach Program.
  • Hold a South Carolina high school diploma or currently meet all graduation requirements, or have alternative qualifications as deemed appropriate by the committee.
  • Be capable of completing college-level work.
  • Demonstrate financial need, as shown by a Federal Student Aid Report (SAR) from FAFSA (Website: fafsa.ed.gov).
  • Plan to attend a state college within South Carolina.
  • Complete the McAlister Foundation Scholarship application and submit all required documentation.

Please ensure that the following items are included in your application packet. Your application cannot be reviewed until we receive all items listed.

  • Completed application form
  • Audiological report (within the last 3 years)
  • Signed high school transcripts with SAT or ACT scores (if taken)
  • First Letter of Recommendation
  • Second Letter of Recommendation
  • Application Essay
  • Student Aid Report (SAR) from Federal Student Aid
