Specialized StaffThe staff members who work directly with the students in the dorms are called human service specialists.
Many students who graduate from the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind return to work in residential life and other positions serving as excellent role models for the students.
Human service specialists are high school graduates who have experience working with children. Staff members have CPR and de-escalation training certifications. They receive ongoing training in topics such as fire safety, wheelchair use, student advocacy, building and bus evacuation, and bloodborne pathogens.
Staff actively participate in recreation and play time, especially with elementary students. Modeling and interaction are essential goals in all activities.
