Student Life
There is so much to do and enjoy at the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind! There are playgrounds, a running track, horse pastures, and even a bowling alley! There are fun activities during the school day and after the school day ends. We offer everything from fine arts to athletics!
Staff members adapt activities to meet the needs of each student, and everyone is encouraged to join in the fun. Students enjoy socializing with their peers and develop lasting friendships.
Both day and residential students are welcome to participate in all of the programs. However, parent-provided transportation is required for day students who wish to participate in the after-school program.

Clubs and Leadership Opportunities
Students develop good character, leadership skills, and lasting friendships through a variety of clubs and organizations.
School for the Deaf clubs include:

Fine Arts
The SC School for the Deaf and the Blind is rated an advanced school by the SC Arts in the Basic Curriculum Project. We offer a comprehensive program with arts classes during the school day and the after-school program.
Fine arts programs include:
Visual Arts: Drawing, painting, studio art, print making, 2D design, 3D design, and photography
Music: Performance choir, music history, instrumental music, keyboard, guitar, and steel drums
Dance: Hip-hop, jazz, ballet, yoga, and tap are offered with the assistance of a local dance company
Drama: Yearly theater production -
Sports
Sportsmanship and teamwork are stressed in our athletic programs. Sports for athletes who are deaf or hard of hearing include:
- Basketball
- Cheerleading
- Football
- Flag Football
- Soccer
- Track and Field
- Volleyball
Younger students have the opportunity to participate in the local YMCA soccer and basketball programs.
