Health CentersNurses are readily available any time the students are on campus through two campus Health Centers, one located on the upper campus and the other in the Herbert Center/Cedar Springs Academy.The medical director for both health centers is a local physician who is on campus at least two hours per day, Monday – Thursday.
Nursing care is available for tube feedings, catheterizations, inhalation therapy, hormone injections, flu vaccines and daily medications. The medical staff routinely cares for students with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, seizures, asthma, hormone deficiencies, allergies and other conditions.Specialized StaffThe SC School for the Deaf and the Blind has 11 highly qualified registered nurses and one licensed practical nurse on staff. The nurses have extensive experience with various backgrounds including pediatrics, medical surgical, cardiovascular, orthopedic, neurology, emergency care, respiratory therapy, infection control, psychiatric and intensive care, among other specialties.Health Centers: Open 24 Hours a DayTwo nurses staff each Health Center during the 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. and 3 p.m. - 11 a.m. shifts. One registered nurse is in each Health Center 11 p.m. – 7 a.m. This coverage is maintained Sunday evening to Friday afternoon when students are on campus.
