Dear Friends,

For me, the winter months invite reflection. They call us to gather closer, to celebrate milestones, and to ready ourselves for the work still ahead. Springtime in the education field is especially busy, and reflection allows us to stay more grounded in our core principles. This year, that reflection centers on the themes of growth through connection and leaning into challenges.

Each of these moments — the celebrations, the new spaces, the stories — are part of a larger theme this year: growth through connection. Whether in classrooms, labs, or at community events, we continue to learn from one another, support each other, and honor the shared mission that defines SCSDB.

We proudly celebrated the opening of the newly refurbished science lab at the School for the Deaf with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This milestone marks the successful completion of an initiative driven by the vision and dedication of the school's science staff and the generosity of community sponsors.

Emily Hernandez, a talented 8th grader from the School for the Blind, had the opportunity to perform for arts professionals from across the state during the Arts in Basic Curriculum Institute site visit yesterday. 

As a finalist, Carvajal will receive $10,000 and advance to the next stage of the state Teacher of the Year Competition.
