SCSDB Wins the Gold for the Sixth Year

The South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) is one of the top performing schools in the state and again has earned the title of “A Palmetto Gold School” for its academic achievements. Schools earning high marks are declared either a Palmetto Gold School (the highest ranking) or a Palmetto Silver School by the SC Department of Education (SDE). The SDE has named SCSDB a Palmetto Gold School for the sixth consecutive year.

The SCSDB report card is based on the students’ national test scores, known as Brigance Assessments, and on students meeting their Individual Education Program (IEP) objectives. Ninety percent of our students made gains in academics on national tests, and 96 percent of our students met their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) objectives.

SCSDB also excels in other areas. The school received an excellent rating for the Opportunities in the Arts category for the third year, and an excellent rating for the Character Development Program. The student attendance rate is 97 percent, and nearly 51 percent of our teachers have earned advanced degrees.

We are very proud to be rated as a South Carolina top school. We congratulate our students on this great accomplishment and thank our wonderful staff and families for their love and support of our great school. We are hard at work to make sure we earn EXCELLENT ratings in 2008.
