Help is readily available to South Carolina residents who need assistive telephone equipment.  Individuals who are experiencing difficulty using their current telephone equipment are encouraged to apply for assistive equipment through the South Carolina Equipment Distribution Program (SCEDP).  This program provides telecommunications equipment at no cost to South Carolina residents with qualifying hearing, speech, blind/low vision with hearing loss or dual sensory disabilities.

SCEDP is an outreach service of the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) in partnership with the Office of Regulatory Staff. The program is funded through the South Carolina Dual Party Relay Fund made possible by a surcharge collected from all South Carolina residential and business access telephone lines (SC Code 58-9-2530).

What Type of Equipment and Services Are Available?  The program provides a wide range of equipment.  Some examples of the equipment include amplified telephones, TTYs, artificial larynx and alerting devices.  Training and equipment installation are provided at no charge.

Who Qualifies for the Program?  SC residents who have telephone service in their homes and certified disabilities that cause difficulty using a standard telephone are eligible.  A professional must certify that the individual can benefit from special telephone equipment
