The South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) is pleased that you are interested in volunteering with our agency. Your willingness to share your time is greatly appreciated. It is our goal at SCSDB to assist individuals with sensory disabilities to become as independent and self-reliant as possible. We offer preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, vocational and postsecondary educational programs in addition to a wide variety of outreach and support services. Many of our students reside on our campus throughout the week and return home on the weekends. Some of the volunteer assignments include classroom assistants, clerical assistants, tutors and athletic/special event helpers. Many of the volunteer positions are available Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Volunteer assignments may be either short or long term and the hours may be flexible to meet the volunteer’s availability. |

Volunteer applicants must complete the necessary application and screening process before a volunteer assignment is made. Applications are accepted throughout the school year and applicants will be contacted if a position is available in their interest area. All long-term volunteer applicants will be required to undergo a drug-screening test, background screening and submit documentation of current tuberculosis test results. Volunteer placement is contingent on passing the drug test, clearance from all background checks conducted by the school, and upon departmental needs.
