The School for the Blind High School serves students in 9th through 12th grade (until the age of 21). Our goal is to meet every individual’s needs and to prepare students for life after high school through our variety of independent living courses, career courses and college prep courses!
 
Academics
 
Students have two educational tracks from which to choose:
 
Pathway I

Pathway I, instructed according to SC State Standards, is designed to
prepare the student for a post secondary program and gives the student an opportunity to receive a high school Three high school students with teacher conducting a science experiment in a labdiploma, SC State Certificate or Certificate of Attendance. Students on Pathway I participate in the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind’s mainstreaming program and all classes are taken at Spartanburg High School.
 
Course requirements include a minimum of 24 credits in the following subjects:
  • English/Language Arts
  • Math
  • Science, including physical science, biology and lab requirements
  • U.S. history and constitution, U.S.government, economics and other social studies courses
  • Foreign language or Career & Technology Education
  • Computer science
  • Physical education
  • Fine arts including music, art, theatre and dance
  • And electives in a variety of areas

Pathway II is designed as a career preparation program, based on SC State Standards of Occupational Curriculum, that allows students to receive an occupational credential or certificate of attendance.

 

Course requirements include a minimum of 24 credits in the following subjects:
  • Employment English
  • Applied math
  • Life science skills and physical science
  • U.S.history and constitution
  • Career & Technology Education
  • Computer science
  • Physical education
  • Fine arts including music, art, theatre and dance
  • Electives
  • Expanded Core Curriculum.*

*Expanded Core Curriculum courses are specifically designed for students with visual disabilities to master the “core curriculum” subjects.
