SCSDB’s Division for the Multihandicapped has New Leadership

Spartanburg - The S.C. School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) has named a new principal.

Maggie E. Park has been promoted to principal in the school’s Division for the Multihandicapped.  Park replaces Craig Jacobs who was the principal for the past four years.  Jacobs retired this summer after 29 years of service to SCSDB.

Park was interim assistant principal in the Division for the Deaf during the 2005-06 school year.  She joined SCSDB in 2000 as an elementary classroom teacher in the Division for the Deaf and earned the status of national board certification in 2001.  Prior to coming to SCSDB, Park was a teacher and assistant program director for the Willie Ross School for the Deaf in Longmeadow, Md.

“We are very pleased that Ms. Park has accepted this important position,” said school President Sheila Breitweiser.  “She has already made many important contributions to SCSDB, and we are fortunate to have such a dedicated professional to serve in this leadership role.”

Park holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Hood College in Maryland, a master’s degree in deaf education from McDaniel College in Westminster,

Md., and an educational specialist’s degree from Converse College in Spartanburg.

“I am so impressed by the staff members in the School for the Multihandicapped,” said Park.  “They are dedicated to helping each child in our program reach his or her maximum potential and to help them develop the character traits necessary to become good citizens.”

She lives in Moore and is the mother of four daughters:   Emily, 23; Heidi, 21; Molly, 19; and Becky 18.    All four daughters are students at Bob Jones University.
