The rededication
ceremony for Hall Dormitory, scheduled for Saturday, October 28, 10 a.m., will
be followed by an open house. The residential
hall, for middle and high school boys, was built in 1972 and named for the
Honorable Joseph Hall. Hall retired from
the SCSDB Board of Commissioners in 1975 after 30 years of service – 25 years
as chairman.
This first-time renovation
of the building involved extensive improvements including a new heating and air
conditioning system, new flooring and ceiling tiles, new plumbing fixtures, and
new furniture and appliances. The
renovation was made possible through federal funds secured by Senator Jim
DeMint. Other contributors include
Kohler Company, Kimbrell Furniture Company, Young Office Supply, Graham
Foundation, Hubbell Lighting, Master Kim’s World Champion Tae Kwon Do and The
Walker Foundation (SCSDB’s fund-raising arm).
“The students
are very happy with the improvements to their living space,” said Jack Todd,
Director of Residential Life Services. “We are grateful to the donors and partners
that helped make this much-needed renovation possible.”
Other
activities include the Tony-award winning National Theatre of the Deaf (NTD) performance
of Fingers Around the World – Next Stop
Africa, which combines American Sign Language and the spoken word. It is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 27, 8:00
p.m. in Pulliam Auditorium, Walker Hall, Tickets are $10 and available only at the
door. Doors open at 7:15 p.m.
