SPARTANBURG – The world of technology opens doors of opportunity in the classroom, the workplace and at home!  Want to know more?  Plan to visit the Technology Fair at the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB).

“The goal of this family-friendly event is to share a wealth of information about assistive technology with the community, students, parents and employers,” said Elaine Sveen, coordinator of the Technology Fair.

Open to the public, the fair will be held May 5 (1 – 8 p.m.) and May 6 (8 a.m. – 3 p.m.) in the Voss Center on the SCSDB campus, 355 Cedar Springs Road, Spartanburg.  Plenty of snacks, drinks and door prizes will be on hand as well as the child-friendly Wacky World inflatable.

Exhibitions will include Dancing Dots braille music technology, video telephones, computerized smart boards, braille printers, special equipment for individuals with multiple disabilities and much more.  Exhibits will be interactive, informative and entertaining.

More than 25 vendors from across the country will exhibit their educational and assistive technology, which will provide an overview of equipment, devices and software that can increase access to education, employment and quality of life.

“Assistive technology is an important tool that helps individuals with sensory disabilities maximize their abilities and also helps to level the playing field in the classroom and the workplace,” said Sveen.

The fair is a collaborative effort of SCSDB, the University of South Carolina Upstate, the South Carolina Department of Education and the Walker Foundation.

The SC Department of Education named SCSDB a Palmetto Gold School for its academic accomplishments and a Red Carpet School for its outstanding customer service.
SCSDB is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf and the SC Department of Education.  SCSDB offers programs for preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, sensory multidisabled, vocational and postsecondary education students, as well as a variety of outreach services through regional centers located throughout the state. The main campus is located in Spartanburg. The school’s web site address is www.scsdb.org and its toll-free telephone number is 1-888-447-2732.
