Walker Foundation Board of Trustees Elects Officers

 

SPARTANBURG – The Walker Foundation Board of Trustees at the S.C. School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) announces the election of officers for 2008-2009.

            Russell R. Raines of Inman is chairman; Phyllis B. DeLapp of Spartanburg is vice chair; J. Scott Keim of Spartanburg is treasurer; and Dr. John F. Dunbar, Jr. of Spartanburg is secretary.

            Raines replaces Robert A. Dobson of Greenville who served as chairman for four year and has been a member of the board for more than 10 years.  Dobson also serves on the Board of Commissioners for SCSDB.

            Raines has been on the board since 2005 and is involved in local, state and international organizations.

            DeLapp, past treasurer of The Walker Foundation, was the former owner of Mid-South Management Company, Inc., which owned small daily and weekly newspapers throughout

the Southeast.  She has been a member of the board since 1998.

            Keim is a certified public accountant and director of audit and accounting with Swaim, Brown & Elliott in Spartanburg.  He has served on the foundation’s board of trustees since 2003.

            Dunbar is a local dentist and was elected to the Walker Foundation board in 2005.

The Walker Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) public, non-profit foundation, licensed by the S.C. Department of Public Charities.  Through the generosity of its contributors, the foundation aids and strengthens the work of SCSDB across the state by providing grants, referral information, public awareness programs and direct assistance.

The SC Department of Education named SCSDB a Palmetto Gold School for its academic accomplishments and a Red Carpet School for its outstanding customer service. 
SCSDB is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf and the SC Department of Education.  SCSDB offers programs for preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, sensory multidisabled, vocational and postsecondary education students, as well as a variety of outreach services through regional centers located throughout the state.
