Student Honored as Outstanding Postsecondary Graduate at SCSDB

 

Spartanburg – Jeffery Smith was named the 2008 Outstanding Postsecondary student of the S.C. School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) during the school’s commencement exercises.  He has lived in both Greenville and Spartanburg.

            Smith has been accepted into the mechanical engineering program at Clemson University to prepare for a career in automotive engineering.

            He is also a graduate of Spartanburg Community College (SCC) through SCSDB’s Cooperative Program with the college.  He earned an overall grade point average of 3.85, was on the President’s List and received the Life Scholarship and scholarships from both the Spartanburg Lions Club and the Mauldin Lions Club.

A 2006 graduate of the SCSDB’s mainstream program at Spartanburg High School, he held student honors and was a member of the Beta Club.

The SC Department of Education named SCSDB a Palmetto Gold School for its academic accomplishments and a Red Carpet School for its outstanding customer service. 
SCSDB is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf and the SC Department of Education.  SCSDB offers programs for preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, sensory multidisabled, vocational and postsecondary education students, as well as a variety of outreach services through regional centers located throughout the state.
