Spartanburg, SC – The SC School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) has selected Galena Gaw as the new director of Library and Media Services in the school’s Cleveland Learning Resource Center (CLRC). 

            Gaw joined the SCSDB media department in 1988 and most recently served as a media specialist in the CLRC. 

            She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina Upstate, a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of South Carolina and is certified in school library/media and deaf education.

            Gaw serves on the Independent/Special Libraries committee and the Young Adult Book Award committee for the SC Association of School Libraries and is the co-chair of the SC Talking Book Advisory Council.

The SC Department of Education named SCSDB a Palmetto Gold School for its academic accomplishments and a Red Carpet School for its outstanding customer service.  SCSDB is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf and the SC Department of Education.  SCSDB offers programs for preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, sensory multidisabled, vocational and postsecondary education students, as well as a variety of outreach services through regional centers located throughout the state.
