Spartanburg, SC – A Greer man has been named the 2007 Outstanding Postsecondary Education student at the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB).

            Justin Wayne Gilreath received the honor during the school’s commencement exercises.

            Gilreath received an associate’s degree in machine tool technology from Spartanburg Community College (SCC) through SCSDB’s Cooperative Program with SCC.  He was awarded the Life Scholarship, which he maintained throughout his college career while he was employed full time.

            He graduated from SCSDB in 2004 as valedictorian.  He was a member of the SCSDB academic bowl team, a member of the football and basketball teams and was a volunteer assistant for activities for students with disabilities and special needs.   

            Gilreath is employed at Springmasters B & Screw Machine Products of Greer working in his field of study.  He is active in the community and has assisted with a sign language interpreter training program at Clemson University and plays on a softball team for the deaf.            

The SC Department of Education named SCSDB a Palmetto Gold School for its academic accomplishments and a Red Carpet School for its outstanding customer service.  SCSDB is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf and the SC Department of Education.  SCSDB offers programs for preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, sensory multidisabled, vocational and postsecondary education students, as well as a variety of outreach services through regional centers located throughout the state.
