Spartanburg, SC – A Spartanburg student has been named
the 2007 Outstanding Senior for the School for the Multihandicapped.
Steven
Nicholas Campbell received the award during the commencement exercise at the SC
School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB).
Campbell attended SCSDB for 14 years during which time he
developed his work skills in the SCSDB student work program and in the Industrial Skills Development
Center. He participated in the Working Wheels program
at Wofford
College .
He
was very involved in athletics playing varsity football and participating in
the Special Olympics athletics program.
He was the goalie for the school’s Special Olympics National
Championship Soccer team, and was also a member of the SCSDB color guard.
Campbell plans to continue developing his work skills in
full-time competitive employment in the Spartanburg
area.
The SC Department of
Education named SCSDB a Palmetto
Gold School
for its academic accomplishments and a Red Carpet School for its outstanding
customer service. SCSDB is accredited by
the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Conference of Educational
Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf and the SC Department of
Education. SCSDB offers programs for
preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, sensory multidisabled,
vocational and postsecondary education students, as well as a variety of
outreach services through regional centers located throughout the state. The
main campus is located in Spartanburg.
