Spartanburg – Would your child like to
make friends with a child who is deaf but is reluctant to do so because of
communication challenges? Learning American
Sign Language (ASL) may open that door of opportunity for your child.
The
South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) is offering American
Sign Language classes for hearing children on Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 5 - 28,
2007, Spring Annex, 355 Cedar Springs Road, Spartanburg. Classes for age group 11-13 years will begin
at 10 a.m., and for age group 8-10 years at 1 p.m.
“There
are many children who are deaf in our local schools and churches,” said SCSDB
Interpreting Services Director, Kathy Stoehr.
“The more awareness hearing children have of those who are deaf and
their unique language, the easier it becomes for them to develop friendships.”
