Greenville Resident Appointed to SCSDB
Board of Commissioners
Spartanburg, SC – Robert A. Dobson (Bobby) has been
named to the Board of Commissioners of the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind
(SCSDB) representing the Fourth Congressional District. The SCSDB Board of Commissioners is an
all-volunteer board whose members are appointed by the governor.
Dobson
is the chairman and president of Dobson Ministries in Greenville, SC,
a non-profit ministry that supplies free Christian materials, including bibles,
audio and video media, devotional books and music to the elderly and nursing
homes.
“This school is simply outstanding and it is a great
asset to our entire state,” said Dobson.
“I have been honored to serve as member of The Walker Foundation for
several years, and I am truly excited to serve now as a member of the SCSDB
Board of Commissioners. SCSDB has been
blessed with great leadership and it is a privilege to be a part of that fine
team.”
Dobson
is chairman of the board of directors for Homeless Children International, Inc.
and of The Walker Foundation, the fund-raising arm of SCSDB. Other leadership roles include serving as a
member of the board of trustees of The King’s College and as founder and board
chairman of the Dobson Volunteer Service Program at the
University of South Carolina. Dobson is past chairman of the board of Limestone College and founder and board chairman
of the Limestone Christian Education and Leadership program. He is also involved with Campus Crusade for
Christ.
Dobson
has eight children, some of whom are grown and reside in the Upstate. He and his wife Beth live in Greenville with their
three younger children.
The SC School for the Deaf and the Blind is
the state’s lead school and resource center for individuals who are deaf, blind
or sensory multidisabled; their families; and the
professionals who work with them. The SC
Department of Education has named SCSDB a Palmetto Gold
School for its academic
accomplishments and a Red Carpet School for its outstanding customer service.
It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the
Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf
and the SC Department of Education. The
