Greenville Resident Appointed to SCSDB Board of Commissioners

Spartanburg, SC   Robert A. Dobson (Bobby) has been named to the Board of Commissioners of the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) representing the Fourth Congressional District.  The SCSDB Board of Commissioners is an all-volunteer board whose members are appointed by the governor.

Dobson is the chairman and president of Dobson Ministries in Greenville, SC, a non-profit ministry that supplies free Christian materials, including bibles, audio and video media, devotional books and music to the elderly and nursing homes.

“This school is simply outstanding and it is a great asset to our entire state,” said Dobson.  “I have been honored to serve as member of The Walker Foundation for several years, and I am truly excited to serve now as a member of the SCSDB Board of Commissioners.  SCSDB has been blessed with great leadership and it is a privilege to be a part of that fine team.”

Dobson is chairman of the board of directors for Homeless Children International, Inc. and of The Walker Foundation, the fund-raising arm of SCSDB.  Other leadership roles include serving as a member of the board of trustees of The King’s College and as founder and board chairman of the Dobson Volunteer Service Program at the University of South Carolina.  Dobson is past chairman of the board of Limestone College and founder and board chairman of the Limestone Christian Education and Leadership program.  He is also involved with Campus Crusade for Christ.

Dobson has eight children, some of whom are grown and reside in the Upstate.   He and his wife Beth live in Greenville with their three younger children.

The SC School for the Deaf and the Blind is the state’s lead school and resource center for individuals who are deaf, blind or sensory multidisabled; their families; and the professionals who work with them.  The SC Department of Education has named SCSDB a Palmetto Gold School for its academic accomplishments and a Red Carpet School for its outstanding customer service. It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf and the SC Department of Education.  The main campus is in Spartanburg, and regional centers are located throughout the state. SCSDB's Web address is www.scsdb.org and its toll-free telephone number is 1-888-447-2732.
