Apply Early for Fall Admission to the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind

SPARTANBURG — The South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) is accepting applications now for the fall 2007 semester. Parents are encouraged to apply early to allow adequate time for admissions review.

SCSDB is the state’s lead school and resource center for students who are deaf, blind or sensory multidisabled. The Spartanburg-based school offers specialized educational programs to maximize student success in meeting academic goals as well as goals for independence, employability, use of assistive technology, physical fitness and community involvement. A comprehensive after-school program offers opportunities to participate in sports and recreation; music, drama, dance and art; tutoring; horseback riding; library programs and more. Dormitory as well as day student options are available, and statewide bus transportation is provided.

South Carolina residents who are deaf, blind or sensory multidisabled, ages 2½ through adult, are eligible to apply. As a state-supported school similar to the Governor’s Schools, there are no fees for qualified students in the preschool – high school programs. Parents considering fall enrollment may wish to consider a short-term trial visit during the school’s summer camps June 24-30.

Postsecondary students pay minimal tuition and fees for services.

To find out more or to schedule a tour of SCSDB’s Spartanburg main campus, please contact Joan Dudgeon, admissions coordinator, at 864-577-7579 or by e-mail at jdudgeon@scsdb.org.

The SC Department of Education named SCSDB a Palmetto Gold School for its academic accomplishments and a Red Carpet School for its outstanding customer service.  SCSDB is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf and the SC Department of Education.  SCSDB offers programs for preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, sensory multidisabled, vocational and postsecondary education students, as well as a variety of outreach services through regional centers located throughout the state.
