Students from the S.C. School for the Deaf and the Blind

To Perform National Anthem at Carolina Panthers Game

 

CHARLOTTE, NC -  Carolina Panthers and their fans will be entertained by an extraordinary rendition of the national anthem at the team’s Oct. 1 home game.

            Students from the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) in Spartanburg, SC will present their annual performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” in American Sign Language (ASL).  Sunday’s 1:00 p.m. game against the New Orleans Saints is at Ericsson Stadium in Charlotte.

            “Our students look forward each year to the opportunity to participate in such an exciting event,” said Debbie Bruce, principal of the division for the deaf.  “We appreciate the Panther’s invitation each year for our students to perform the national anthem and it has turned into a tradition for our school.”

            The SCSDB student performers are:  Reggie Walker, 12th-grade, of Sharon; Lee Kirby,12th- grade of Cowpens; Thomas Glouse, 12th-grade, of Taylors; Victoria Fleming, 11th-grade of Roebuck; James Grote, 11th-grade, of Spartanburg; La’Anthony Jones, 11th-grade, of Rock Hill; Frederick Watson, 11th-grade, of Bennettsville; Cecilia Bruce, 10th-grade, of Spartanburg; Tiffany Harrison, 10th-grade of Spartanburg; Godfrey Howard, ninth-grade, of Spartanburg; and Bradley Martin, ninth-grade of Chesnee.  SCSDB teacher Shannon Fike will direct the group.     

             The SC School for the Deaf and the Blind is a specialized instructional and resource center. It provides services statewide for individuals who are deaf, blind or sensory multidisabled, their families and the professionals who work with them. SCSDB offers programs for preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, sensory multidisabled, vocational and postsecondary educational students, as well as a variety of outreach and support services.
