

Special Olympics is an international program that brings athletic training
and competition for children and adults with developmental disabilities.
At SCSDB, the program runs
throughout the nine months of the school year, at least 100 students
participate in Special Olympics activities.
Special Olympic
activities give students continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, motor
skills, greater self-confidence and a more positive self image. Students grow mentally, socially and spiritually and through these activities,
exhibit boundless courage and enthusiasm.
SCSDB students train and
compete in a variety of sports, including track & field, swimming, roller
skating, bowling, bocce ball,
gymnastics, basketball, volleyball and soccer,
just to name a few.
This summer, our SCSDB
Soccer team and four gymnasts went to the 2006 National Games in


Athletes from SCSDB participate on the local, state
national and international levels for individual sports and team sports.
The coaches of the Special Olympics teams are Head
Coach Joe Johnson, Assistant Coaches Kim Speer and Mike Hollifield.
