SCSDB’s Vision Impaired Sports Program consists of goalball and programs in swimming and golf. The number of student athletes in the School for the Blind has increased significantly over the past year, says Lou Thomson, Goalball Coach. .

Goalball
Goalball is played on a court a little smaller than a basketball court and with a ball that has a bell in it so athletes who are blind can follow it.  All the players wear eyeshades so there is no discrimination between players who have some sight and those who are totally blind.  The ball is hurled under handed rolled back and forth on the floor as one team attempts to get it past the other team’s “baseline” and score a goal.

SCSDB's Boys Goalball team are the NATIONAL USABA YOUTH GOALBALL CHAMPIONS for the 2nd consecutive year in a row!

The SCSDB Boys Goalball Team dominated on the court both defensively and offensively against some very strong competition, with a final record of  8-0 for the Tournament held in Florida October 26th-29th 2006. Another highlight of the Nationals this year is that Westley Campbell was named to the All-American Team and received the highest honor for a player at the tournament.  He was selected as the Tournament’s Most Valuable Player!  Head Coach Lou Thomson was appointed Head Coach for the USA National Youth Goalball team as well as the Head Coach for the World Championship Tournament. We are very proud of all our players on our Girls and Boys Goalball Team, Coaches Lou Thomson and Tony Merriweather!
