Independence Place Apartments Students can share apartments that are fully accessible and equipped with assistive technology for individuals who are deaf/hard of hearing or blind/visually impaired. Residential advisors are available to assist students with independent living skills training, meetings and other needs.
Future residents of Independence Place Apartments should contact the Spartanburg Housing authority at 864-598-6000 or 1-800-735-8583 (TTY) to obtain an application for Independence Place Apartments. The applicant is responsible for completing the application and mailing directly to the Spartanburg Housing Authority, P.O. Box 2828, 325 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29204.
Prior to consideration for admission, prospective students and their family/guardian are invited to visit SCSDB and the Independence Place Apartments.
Listed below are some examples of items you may need for your room/apartment in Independence Place:
Bedding, Pillows, Comforter, and Sheets
Towels, Wash Clothes
Throw rugs for bathroom and bedroom
Shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, shaving items, feminine personal hygiene items, brushes, combs, etc
Clothing, including pajamas/gown, robe, slippers
If you are assigned to an apartment you will also need the following: kitchen items such as pots, pans, toaster, dishes, silverware, cooking utensils, knives, dish towels, dish soap. What you will need to bring will depend on how much cooking you plan to do.
Microwaves are also allowed in the apartments/rooms if you would like to bring one of your own.
In addition to the items mentioned above you may want to bring items such as pictures, CD players, televisions, etc., that will help personalize your area.
