SCSDB offers a variety of support services and programs designed to determine and meet the unique needs of its students, including:

Psychological Services
School psychologists conduct initial and periodic psycho educational evaluations to determine appropriate placement and to assist teachers in developing individualized educational plans.

Counseling Services
To help students with the normal concerns of growing up combined with the unique challenges of special needs, SCSDB offers a staff of supportive, certified counselors.

Audiological Services
SCSDB’s certified audiologist provides hearing assessments, hearing aid evaluations and fittings, and routine hearing aid maintenance and repair services.

Speech and Language Services
Speech pathologists and communication specialists utilize a variety of methods to help each student develop his or her individual potential. Among others, these include articulation therapy, amplification devices, sign language instruction and augmentative communication devices.

Physical and Occupational Therapy Services
Through physical and occupational therapy, SCSDB strives to develop the physical skills necessary for students to function in school, at home and in the community.

Vocational Training
The Pennell Vocational Center provides services to SCSDB’s three undergraduate schools. The focus of vocational training is to develop basic workforce skills, job readiness and awareness of career options and training programs. During their junior or senior year, many students elect to enroll in a specific job training area.

Library and Media Services
The Cleveland Learning Resource Center (CLRC) provides SCSDB students, as well as their families and professionals throughout the state, with access to state-of-the-art technology and up-to-date information. The 14,000-volume library which includes Braille, cassette, large and regular print books, has an automated card catalogue with voice and large print access and a special parent/professional library and links to a world of information through the Internet. Each school also has its own fully equipped computer lab with network access to the on-line Card Catalog in the CLRC.

SCSDB’s Media Center works in cooperation with the resources of the CLRC to provide the materials and equipment needed by the school’s faculty and professional staff to stimulate student interest and understanding of the resources available to them. A variety of audio, visual and tactile materials is available to meet the special needs of students with sensory disabilities.

Physical Education and Athletics
Through SCSDB’s physical education program, students have the opportunity to develop sports skills and to establish wellness habits. The physical education and athletics programs provide the students with opportunities to participate in a wide variety of sport and leisure activities.
